english helpp? harlem renaissance!?
How does Ellington use instruments to imitate his favorite mode of transportation in “Daybreak Express”?The trombone imitates the “wah-wah” of a ship.
The trumpet and saxophones imitate the sounds of a train.
Call and response” in Jazz is when a soloist plays, and a group answers through their music. Look at the format of “The Weary Blues.” How does the format compare to “call and response” used in “Ko-Ko”?
The repeated words are like the call and indicate that a response is requested.
The regular lines are like the call, and the indented lines are like the response.
There is no similarity between the format of “The Weary Blues” and “call and response.”
The lines without punctuation are like the call, and the punctuated lines are like the response
The saxophones imitate the distinctive “feel” of a subway.
The trombone and clarinet imitate the various speeds of a car.
How do “Mood Indigo” and “The Weary Blues” compare?
The trombone, clarinet, and trumpet create an upbeat mood in “Mood Indigo,” while the words “melancholy, mellow, and droning,” create a calm mood in “The Weary Blues.”
The trombone, clarinet, and trumpet create a sad mood in “Mood Indigo,” like the words “melancholy, mellow, and droning,” create a dreary mood in “The Weary Blues.”
The trombone, clarinet, and trumpet create a depressing mood in “Mood Indigo,” while the words “melancholy, mellow, and droning,” create an optimistic mood in “The Weary Blues.”
What happens to the beat of the lines in “Dream Boogie” as the poem evolves?
They get faster.
They get slower.
There is no change.
Match each poetic device with its example
: assonance 1 : thump
: onomatopoeia 2 : the piano moan
: personification 3 : boogie-woogie

Hip Hop is responsible for doing this yet why do people like it?
Hip Hop destroyed music is the point of my question well not exactly but it is partly responsible."soul" music died after 1979 when that disco riot took place rock fans hated Disco ignoring that thy stole "rock" music in the 1950s from black people calling it rock and roll when it was just boogie woogie, jump blues, jazz, and R and B or rhythm and blues.I think that white people shouldn't have whitened Disco since it was mostly played for black people and I think if that Disco riot never happened then rap would be underground music and music would sound much better and I hate synthesizers cause they dont use acutal instruments and you cant hear the soul in the music and I hip hop influenced R&B sucks I like R&B from the 1960's some 70's and early 80's after that horrible!the black community looks gay today
Pytanie #14:
What shouldn't have been created disco or hip hop ?
I hate Hip Hop because of kids talk back to parents and it ahs invented this slang and it has ruined society. For the past 20 years R&B has been sampling old songs from the 1970's and there is no originality anymore.White people trashed Disco by stealing and it and overpopularizing it by making the "Saturday night fever" which trashed disco.White people already trashed Boogie Woogie,Jazz, blues and jump blues by calling it "rock and roll" and trashing it.Disco only led to Hip Hop and I like early 1970's fashion and music and today sucks I cant stand BET 106&park I mean music is just pitiful life in pitiful the drinking age is 21 above the age of adulthood which is 18 in most states. When we FINALLY have a black president look what we have hip hop instead of hip hop I believe we should have Funk music which was REAL soul in my opinion but when they started using synthesizers it started to suck!Pytanie #15:
What shouldn't have been created Disco or Hip Hop?
Before Hip Hop kids respected their parents and elders but parents now who were teens in the early 80s because of hip hop they are lousy parents.after 1979 "soul" music died cause they started using synthesizers after in 1979 when they had that Disco riot rock fans hated disco when it became over popularized thanks to white people who trash all music genres that black people have that originated in Africa. Most songs since the 1990's have been samples of 1970's or 1980's music cause they cant be original anymore. There is no more originality R&B is dead I think funk music was the best like Tina Turner Nutbush city limits and those early 1970s songs.White people stole rock actually it was just Boogie Woogie, jazz, jump blues and blues but white people hated that white kids were getting into black people in in the 1950's so they called it "rock and roll' as if white people made it they trashed Disco and made a movie saturday night fever!I am trying to debate what shouldn't have been created Disco or hip hop cause mainstream music today sucks on BET and MTV!Pytanie #16:

Pytanie #28:
What Big Band/Jazz song is this with bugle/trumpet intro?
It's hard to describe songs like this because I don't remember if it has any words and I can't exactly hum it out, but I do remember that it starts off with a bugle/trumpet playing a military call. I believe it is the assembly call and then after that the song really starts to jam. It's not Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy either. If you have any ideas or suggestions at all let me know. It's Buddy Rich's Bugle Call Rag, sorry for the vagueness.
Pytanie #29:
Why are these terminologies considered racist?
Not being funny but there are a few racist terms that really I don't know why they are considered so here they are;1) Negro - Actually considering it means *person from Nigeria* its more an honor of heritage as being called an American means your from America.
2) Yankee - The north won. As all confederate governments were destroyed we are all Yankees now officially.
3) Honky - The Honky Tonk man was considered pretty cool back in the Boogie Woogie days.
4) Chinkee - and why not if you are from China. Afro blacks are also called Afros, British called Brits, French called Frenchies. What makes you so special?
5) Hicks - Can't see any relationship here.
6) Jungle Bunny - this just makes me feel cute
7) Paki - Again we think its ok to call British Brits etc... so why not Pakistanis' Paki?
Thanks guys. As with all racism its the same old same old. You're either too fat, or too tall, or too short, or too black, or too white. In the end none of us are perfect, just reveals how sad that person is.

Langston Hughes Questions?
DREAM BOOGIEBy Langston Hughes
Good morning, daddy!
Ain't you heard
The boogie-woogie rumble
Of a dream deferred?
Listen closely:
You'll hear their feet
Beating out and Beating out a --
You think
It's a happy beat?
Listen to it closely:
Ain't you heard
something underneath
like a --
What did I say?
Sure,
I'm happy!
Take it away!
Hey, pop!
Re-bop!
Mop!
Y-e-a-h!
The Weary Blues
by Langston Hughes
Droning a drowsy syncopated tune,
Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,
I heard a Negro play.
Down on Lenox Avenue the other night
By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light
He did a lazy sway . . .
He did a lazy sway . . .
To the tune o' those Weary Blues.
With his ebony hands on each ivory key
He made that poor piano moan with melody.
O Blues!
Swaying to and fro on his rickety stool
He played that sad raggy tune like a musical fool.
Sweet Blues!
Coming from a black man's soul.
O Blues!
In a deep song voice with a melancholy tone
I heard that Negro sing, that old piano moan--
"Ain't got nobody in all this world,
Ain't got nobody but ma self.
I's gwine to quit ma frownin'
And put ma troubles on the shelf."
Thump, thump, thump, went his foot on the floor.
He played a few chords then he sang some more--
"I got the Weary Blues
And I can't be satisfied.
Got the Weary Blues
And can't be satisfied--
I ain't happy no mo'
And I wish that I had died."
And far into the night he crooned that tune.
The stars went out and so did the moon.
The singer stopped playing and went to bed
While the Weary Blues echoed through his head.
He slept like a rock or a man that's dead.

Musicians of the 40s and 50s, boogie woogie styles?
Okay, unfortunately I can't give too much information because I don't remember; so I'm going to explain what I do remember. My mom used to put on a tape in the car that had this real bouncy (she calls it boogie woogie) type of music. It had many different instruments and the group was led and titled from a black dude who can sing and play this music well. I am not sure of the decades it came out in, but I know its around the 40s or 50s, probably in the 50s.
The pieces I remember about the tape cover are it was in black and white, and he was on the front cover holding an instrument. My mom said his name might have "James" in it, but she is not sure.
Are there some of you out there who can maybe provide a list of well known musicians around that time in this category.. or maybe have an idea of what this band was called? The music was very bouncy and he sung extremely well, this was music you can get up and dance to.
I know I don't have many details, but any info any of you have might be helpful.
